17.05.2013, 22. day, 89 / 2900 km, Zakynthos

I get an excellent breakfast on the patio. In the north I can see the sea, to the west and south far into the plain.
The people are sad that I don't want to stay longer, but I want to arrive at Zakynthos today.
There is a shortcut back to the "national" road, but it goes around the villages and has partially only gravel.
The sun is covered by clouds , but it is not cold. There is a strong wind from the side but I can make good progress.
While taking a short coffee break I watch a woman just across the road burning her garbage. The smoke comes to me. I get going on quickly.
After 65 km I can leave the loud and traffic loaden national road and take the turnoff to Killini.
Once more there is no sign or hint to Killini at important crossings. But the people I ask kindly give me helpful directions.
A few km in front of Killini I meet Stephan from Bühl in Germany. He came by bike from Izmir (Turkey) via Rhodos, Kreta and several other Greek islands to Killini and decides now to go with me to Zakynthos. Next week he will meet his wife in Venice and will then together with her cross the alps by bike and go home.
The ferry ride costs only 8 Euros and lasts nearly one hour. At the harbour of Zakynthos I buy a map of the Island and go on then together with Stephan to the campground 2 km west of Tsilivi.
Here they have a restaurant that has opened today. My tent is located just beside the beach. I have a wonderful view. I'll enjoy it until Birgit comes next week. Then we'll have vacation in a hotel for one further week before we return home by plane.

Overall I enjoyed also this trip very much. Of course, it could have rained less. But I did'nt become ill and got to know many interesting people and countries. There weren't any really dangerous situations. Except the rupture of the gear cable I had no problems with my bike.
And for those who always ask about it: nor with my bottom.
Thanks to everybody who wrote to me (or will write to me). I'll try to answer everyone if I didn't answer yet.
It is a good feeling to have arrived. Surely it was not the last trip.
