07.05.2013, 12. day, 143 / 1553 km, Pirovac

Taking a shower was special: there was only cold water, therefore I took a cold shower. It was ok. As I realize this morning when looking out of the window I had a room with seaview, not more than 20 m from the water.
The sun is shining partially, taking precautions I apply my sunscreen. I could have saved it.
Oh yes, the first 50 km it stays dry. While taking a short coffee-break at Starigrad I already here thunder. In my direction it looks rather dark. Again I cover the baggage. Courageously I go on, and in fact: it starts raining, but still not very heavily.
I hope to come to Zadar before the thunderstorm catches up to me. To the right and the left I see lightnings, I hear non stop thundering. 10 km before Zadar the thunderstorm has caught up to me. Fortunately just as I pass a restaurant where I have to stay for two hours while the thunderstorm goes on. The waiters run outside to save the tables and chairs although they are under a roof.
In the meantime I enjoy gratefully a salad with ham and pancakes.
To Zadar the traffic becomes expectedly more dense, I miss the (early) turnoff to Sibenik and find myself in a development area of Zadar. No signs to Sibenik. I have to rely on my own orientation, pass the yacht-harbour and cross a rundown and lonely industrial area with completely rusted-out tanks and railway wagons. But the way really leads me to the road to Sibenik.
With increasing distance to Zadar the traffic decreases again, only from time to time a car passes me. This is very pleasant.
Because I lost so much time due to the thunderstorm I can't reach Sibenik but find a campground in Pirovac where I quickly set up my tent, take a (warm) shower and get a Raznici in the restaurant. They also will serve breakfast in the morning.

The road goes mostly along the ocean

The islands are completely barren

Here it looks rather threatening

But for the present the way goes along the edge of the thunderstorm

What does this sign want to tell me?

In the distance the highway bridge to Zadar

View back: I came out of the sunshine

The highway bridge from the other side

This highway eases the traffic load enormously

Now the thunderstorm has caught up to me

Unplanned at the yacht harbor of Zadar

Industrial district with completely rusted-out tanks

Blue sky, sunshine, as if nothing had happened

If You can read all this while passing You are really good!

Amazing what you can find in Croatia!
