I didn't get to Croatia yet, but almost. But let me tell the story from the beginning. The man in the reception of the campground had told me in the evening that the restaurant wouldn't serve breakfast, but I could get in the "Mercator", about 200 m away. But: "Mercator" is a shop, and today is Sunday, and this shop is closed. Fortunately I still have a roll from yesterday. The sun is shining, I can drive in a T-shirt. The long pants I keep on, it is not warm enough to take them off. It goes downhill for at least 20 km along the Soca river. After a short time I see a waterfall coming out of the rocks: the Boka river. I can't come very close, but it is also impressive from the distance. I enjoy Slovenia very much. I have to force myself not always to stop and take pictures. But the sunshine doesn't last for long. Shortly after Tolmin, where I leave the Soca and follow the Idrijika river uphill, it gets cloudy but for a while it stays dry. But it becomes colder, 15°C (59°F). This valley is also pretty, I'm enjoying this very much even if it goes uphill now. I go on via Idrija and pass Logatec in the direction of Postojna. The map doesn't tell me that it goes steep uphill here. I have no time for the famous stalactite cave. Now it begins to rain what I feared all the time because of the dark clouds. It becomes colder (12°C, 43°F), of course headwind. I'm glad that I have the rain cover at my hand. With such weather conditions I don't want to go to Croatia today. I'm cold, tired, hungry and wet. Furthermore I think 160 km are sufficient for today. Nevertheless I enjoyed the day. At Ilirska Bistrica I find a pizza place which has rooms to rent. After a shower and in dry and warm clothes I get a huge Pizza, just like yesterday. They also have WiFi, I can write and upload my report just here. To the Croatian border it's only 12 km. I hope that it will not rain tomorrow and I'm looking forward to the Adriatic Sea. |
