When I return to my tent to sleep I realize that three men from Vienna set up their tent just beside me, although there were at least 50 free sites nearby. I welcome them and tell them that I came here by bicycle. They seem to be interested. But they keep on non stop talking in front of their tent. One of them has a very loud voice and laughs often. I can't sleep. At 0:30 am I ask them politely to be quieter. They answer I should be glad that they didn't switch on their music. Very considerate! Breakfast is not available. I pack up my tent and my baggage (the Vienna men are now sleeping) and go on. At Makarska I find a cafe with free internet and upload the report and the pictures. While I'm doing this another long distance biker arrives (recognizable by the baggage). He is a physician too (radiologist) and already retired. He comes from Berlin and goes to Instanbul. Like me he he has also been on the road for two weeks. He performs free camping (not on campgrounds). This seems to be too dangerous to me. It is not possible to establish a record on this way today. Permanently it goes up and down, but after every turn there is a new beautiful view. The weather is excellent, 24°C (77°F) and nearly all the time sunshine. So it is very pleasant to travel by bike. For 9 km I have to cross Bosnia & Herzegovina. The border officers are kind and let me pass without examination. I can't get to Dubrovnik today. I want to take a campsite in Slano. There are several signs on the road to different campgrounds, but the sites do not exist. The people I ask send me to different locations, but I don't find any campground. So I take a room at a restaurant in Slano. They take 25 Euro including breakfast. It is not much more expensive but much more comfortable than a campground. Dubrovnik is now 30 km away. I'm curious about it. |
