Once more a have a room with seaview and realize it on the next day. It starts with a long incline, but I'm rewarded by a wonderful view to the bay of Slano. The distance to Dubrovnik is only 30 km, but it is very hilly. A cruise liner is just entering the harbour of Dubrovnik. I have to cross an impressive bridge - and then it goes steeply uphill. Here I meet Niklas who comes from the Bodensee and wants to go to Asia by bike. It is his first bicycle trip. He has one year time. I want to visit the old town of Dubrovnik and have to go through a tunnel, then it goes downhill for a long time. Anyhow I miss the turnoff to the old town and have to climb again half of the way. The old town is full of tourists, many cars and motorcycles are parking in front of it. With my bike I don't come very far: there are only stairs. I don't want to leave my bicycle on the parking lot, not even locked. So I go on. It goes for 2 km steep uphill on a very small road which is also used by busses. Terrible. Several times I have to stop and let busses and trucks pass. Finally I get to top. There I meet to cyclists from Austria who went by plane to Catania in Italy and came by ferry to Greece. They want to return to Austria via Croatia. Only a short time later I meet two other cyclists with long distance baggage. They come from Zagreb to Montenegro for vacation. Short in front of the border to Montenegro there is another long incline. Entering the country is no problem. It is possible to take the road around the bay of Kotor. The distance is 26 km. Or you can use the ferry, that takes 10 minutes. I choose the ferry. The district from Tivat to Budva is a purely industrial area with much truck traffic. Close to Budva there is a steep incline with two lanes, but the half of the right one is covered with concrete that has fallen down from concrete transporting trucks, so this part can't be used by a bicycle. But the bus- and truckdrivers don't see this and honk at me. I'm glad when I have passed this part. At Budva I do not recognize anything. We have been here more than 30 years ago in Becici, two km further. At a gas station they explain the way to the campground to me, the distance is only 200 m. I set up my tent, but I don't like to take a shower here. It is horribly dirty and there seems to be no warm water. At the gas station I have free Internet. Here I'm sitting now and writing my report. I order a cappuccino, but there is no milk. Then I take a coffee. When I want to pay, the very kind young women doesn't want the money because she couldn't fulfill my primary wish. I have no words. Tomorrow I will enter Albania. I don't know whether they have internet or not. So it may be that the next report will be delayed by a few days. But it will surely come. |
